K-9 athlete makes a big splash at the diving dog competition | Sam Morris Las Vegas Sun

Last summer we witnessed the Olympic games at the 100th Annual Olympic games in London. Athletes from around the world gathered to compete for gold, silver and bronze. But this weekend a spectacular competition took place in Las Vegas that shook up the Pet World making everyone take notice: The Battle of the DOG Champions!

This past weekend at the Rio in Las Vegas, the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge featured dogs competing in an agility course, free-style flying disc, pole weaving, Jack Russell hurdle racing, and diving events including dock diving where large dogs are sprinting across a platform just before lunging themselves into a pool for a toy. The 2-day event marks this competition as a regional qualifier for the Incredible Dog Challenge Finals that takes place in October 4-5 in Missouri.

This is the 16th year the Dog Challenge has taken place and sponsored by Purina. Many of the images featured display poetry in motion as we see dogs leap to spectacular heights over their handlers with a flying disc in their mouth. Whether they are lunging themselves into a large pool or sprinting across a platform great displays of athletic K-9 agility wowed audiences.
