If there is one band that pops into your head when you think of perfectly constructed indie pop, it’s probably the spectacular Swedish trio Peter Bjorn and John. It’s unsurprising then that Peter Morén’s Broken Swenglish vol. 2 has that same

joyous freneticism. After recording two solo albums in his native Sweden, Morén decided to bring the songs over to the rest of the world with this spectacular set of EPs. And, damn, are we glad he did. We’re over the moon to be premiering our personal favorite track off the EP — “The Pyramid.” With it’s killer bass line and wild sax solos, it’s the kind of track that hooks you immediately. Of course, it’s not all shedding solos and danceable beats. If you listen carefully you can hear Morén’s contemplating, deep economic and philosophical questions. Morén says of the track:

“THE PYRAMID” was the title track of my latest Swedish solo-album. But in Swedish of course, “PYRAMIDEN”. I like the elasticity of that concept, it’s very useful. You can apply it to politics and Marx theories of the class system but also to the psychologist Maslow and his theory about the hierarchy of needs. Really everything in life; career, aging & growing, love, you can put at different steps on a pyramid. So I’m dwelling a little on all of this in the song.

It’s about personal inadequacies and insecurities as often but rubbing back with the bigger schemes of things. Musically is Motown-gone-punk-soul, was thinking about one of my favorite albums, “Get Happy!” by Costello, stuff like that. Love spitting out words! It’s got a fantastic sax-solo by Swedish jazz-legend Per “Ruskträsk” Johansson blasting full speed ahead. Love saxophones. People are too damn afraid to use them in pop! And there’s now guitar on this track, rare for me!”

Check out the track above and be sure to get the Broken Swenglish vol. 2 out 10/7 on Ingrid. We promise, you won’t regret a thing.
