Get Nostalgic with Oh Cassius!’s ‘carpenter’ [video]

Oh Cassius! have beautifully collected the best aspects of folk pop, and the result is absolutely lovely. In a sad but glorious track, “Carpenter”, the Connecticut duo have captured all of the essence the genre endears itself to: love, loss, adventure, and good old fashioned woodworking. A foot-stomping guitar rhythm is layered over gentle piano, full drums and teeming strings. His (John Torres) and her (Meredith DiMenna) voices breathe life into the lyrics and make you nostalgic for your own tragic past love.

Last week, Oh Cassius! released the track’s music video, which features their lyrics in big, blocked signage font over car footage of scenery. At five minutes, you might think you’d get sick of the four beat kick drum or the string section swaying your heart to the melody, but this never occurs. In the end, “Carpenter” gives us a healthy dose of what we crave from any pop genre – a song we’ll find ourselves listening to again and again.
