Word is out, Kate Middleton is pregnant. While we have plenty of time to wait until we find out whether the heir to the throne is a boy or a girl (rumor has it she is just out of her first trimester), my guess is that we’ll all be watching like hawks to see what Kate Middleton will be wearing throughout her pregnancy.
With the royal spawn probably only abot the size of a lima bean at this point (Can you imagine carrying around the future king or queen of England in your uterus?), I can only speculate at this point what we will be seeing Kate wearing. Yet, if history is any indication of what this royal will wear, with some educated guessing, I have thrown some looks together that, to me, are “pregnant Duchess of Cambridge” inspired. All the looks have accessible price points as well as higher ones. Kate’s casual style has a real British country look to it. I can totally see her grabbing a cable knit sweater and popping a denim button-down shirt underneath it to further enhance the town and country look. Granted, layers of tops hardly seems bearable when you’re pregnant so, instead, I can also see her delicately draping the sweater over her shoulders. Finished with some classic accessories, like an Hermes Birkin Bag, the look is rich and timeless, like her.
For a more conservative look, I can see Kate Middleton going with a very classic dress in a timeless polka-dot. Having been instrumental in resurrecting the classic nude pump, I expect to see her continuing to wear them…with pantyhose, of course. Lastly, if need be, I can see her taking this very British, very classic and conservative look and adding a fascinator for some youthfulness.
Don’t let Kate Middleton’s more conservative style and classic ways fool you. She has been known to edge out her looks, just as long as they stay classy. Kate is no stranger to a printed blouse in elegant patterns and color combinations. For a comfortable dressy-casual look, I can see her going for a printed blouse, comfy cardigan, leggings and a pair of booties. One thing I’ve noticed about Kate’s style is that she seldom wears bold earrings. Usually they are more understated. Also, the only time you see her wear bold necklaces is more casually. In a case like an outfit like this, I can see her stepping out with her necklace a bit.
While the Duchess of Cambridge hardly needs clothing for an office environment, her work does require her to wear polished work-looking attire. Here, I paired a classic wrap button down and a more conservative maternity skirt that is worn with a trench. To add some pop, something that Kate often does to her more conservative looks, I added an acid green handbag.
Kate Middleton loves a blazer and I can see her still going for them as her pregnancy progresses. Maternity are blazers are great for creating some shape in the waist when your waist seems to be disappearing as the belly grows. While a bouclé jacket fits in perfectly with the royal British look, instead, my guess is that Kate will be wearing them with jeans and a basic button down that will be popped with some excitement of colorful accessories. And, yes, both the shirt and the jacket are maternity, if you can believe it!
Another favorite of Kate’s is a modern jacket that has an interesting neckline or collar. While the Duchess’ style can be a bit subtle and subdued, these modern, architectural twists are what make her style a bit more interesting to look at.
Middleton is a dress lover, for sure. Just like her love of more architecturally modern coats, the same goes for her dresses. My guess is that Kate will still maintain a great figure through pregnancy (insert my jealousy here), and by going for a classic color combination like grey, oxblood and camel, the look remains timeless with the look not being snoozy.
Even I hesitated in including this outfit because, up until now, we’ve seen Kate Middleton solely in more body hugging pieces. I’m not entirely sure if the Duchess will gravitate into more relaxed tops and leggings. Yet, I have to think that, like any woman waiting to give birth, in the end, even if she does have ladies-in-waiting, she may want a more relaxed fit. So, I don’t know, I guess we’ll see. Yet, when I thought about a relaxed pregnancy look for Kate Middleton, I couldn’t help but think of that rugged, rustic look that she likes to wear.
