gothen GET COZY AND LISTEN TO GOTHENS GORGEOUS ALBUM [STREAM]

There was a specific moment in Gothen’s “Am” when I knew I loved this record. It was during the palm-muted acoustic first verse when the strings quietly begin to build on top of which he sings “you are not alone, though you feel alone” followed by a gentle horn interlude. I mean, cue the goosebumps, right?

His Facebook bio explains that he wrote the album while working on a farm in Norway shut in his room due to the “Midwinter Darkness”, but even before I read about it, I sensed an almost spiritual appreciation for both shadows and light in his songs. There’s this fantastic romantic moodiness that lingers over the whole of the record that, when paired with his careful classical folk compositions, falls evenly over your mind like a heavy blanket of fog. The balanced, organic vibes that saturate its entirety easily tip the scale towards unity rather than monotony, the tracks all taking on their own variances of wintry shades.

Intelligent and intriguing, Gothen is an beautiful work sure to be beloved by fans of bands like Fleet Foxes, Princess Music, and Mutual Benefit. Take this record home with you, get into a cozy spot with something warm to drink, and savor these nine tracks by Gothen perfectly suited for wintry days spent hibernating. I’ll give you a preview with “Am” above and “Mong York” below, but download it in its entirety here for the full experience.
