Gay Rights: What's the Big Deal?

By Red Hot News @buttrfly7740
I hate mushrooms.  When my boyfriend and I go out to dinner I don't make him hate mushrooms and tell him he can't eat them.  If fact, he gets double the mushrooms because I don't eat mine.  I don't walk from table to table telling people that mushrooms are fungi and grown in poop, therefore they shouldn't be eaten.  There you have it, my cruddy analogy.  Sure, there are better ones, and by the title of this piece I bet you thought you would be walking into an anti-gay story.  Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm all about the gays.  Why does the LGBTQ community have to struggle?  I'm confused.  Please explain to me why there are questions about rights to marry, rights to property in case a partner dies, and many many many more rights that the gay community is being shafted on. (not supposed to be a pun, but I'll take it anyway)  Why does the LGBTQ have to hide who they are and who they want to be?  Yes, there are parades.  Yes, there are places they can go freely with no judgment. (If you've never been to boystown in Chicago, you haven't lived.)  Why isn't this considered segregation? One more question, WHY do I even have to ask these questions.  I'm sorry, I thought we all were human's with rights.  Did I miss a memo?
Ok so let's go down the line of who is out right against anything LGBTQ.  First thing that comes to mind is the Westboro Baptist Church.  Now if you don't know who these people are, please use google.  I mean it.  Stop reading my blog right now and google Westboro Baptist Church, you might have had a down day and need a laugh.  I don't know where their beliefs came from, but I do know these thoughts and sentences are poorly constructed, incomplete, and you just feel sad for them because of how ignorant they are.  It's not even just about gay rights, they just say things that don't even make sense.  My friend's two year old has a better understanding of the English language.  Now there tend to be a lot more of right wing conservatives that are anti-gay, but I honestly won't make a blanket statement to say that all are against the LGBTQ community.  In fact, most embrace it in the dark while no one is watching. (i.e. Pastor Eddie Long, Ted Haggard, and Jim West)
Why am I still talking about this and why are we even debating this as a nation?  Everyone always has an answer coming from the Bible.  We can go into a long boring argument of separation of church and state and blah blah, but let's take a more fun approach.  How about we live our lives as others have said, by the Bible and it's teachings.
WATCH OUT VIRGINS!!!!!
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)Nice! Fifty shekels of silver! Damn that's a hefty sum.  Hey father of the daughter I just raped, um found out she's a virgin and not pledged to be married, so yeah I took care of that for you and here's a few coins to make it better. Peace!INCEST RULES TOO!!!!That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. (Genesis 19:33-36)Ok so I've made my point correct?  Anything can be taken out of context or used to suit whatever argument you are trying to make.  I'm not the judge or jury on anything, but are we just going to persecute anyone who is different?  Make them sit in the back of the bus so the "normal" people know they are better?  I'm just wondering why is it such a big deal?  Why does Joe Schmo in Wichita, Kansas care if two people of the same sex marry in Boston, Massachusetts?  I just don't know why people are picketing, standing in lines with bull horns, and screaming at the top of their lungs about what other people do with their lives.  Oh no! Those two men are kissing, in public no less!  Shield your children!  My two favorite responses are this:  people saying that their children might "catch" it like it's a disease and that people (usually male) don't want them in the locker room because they might try to see things or hit on them.  Just because you are gay does not in any way shape or form mean it's all free game, that they find every person of the same gender as them attractive, and it certainly doesn't mean they are going to attack or harass you if they are a bit attracted.
As for transgender people, they have enough stress in their lives for people to be evil, judgmental, and prejudice.  You cannot, I cannot, imagine the pain they've had to live.  Who are you to tell people how they feel or that what they feel is not right?  To feel like you are in the wrong skin, the wrong body, and having to deal with that along with everyday life and knowing you're different as a child growing up with other children on the playground or in school, who detect quickly if anything is amiss with another child and chastise that person mercilessly....I just have no words.
There are laws if any person harms another.  That's what laws are there for.  Whether the race, ethnicity, gender, age, or sexual preference, there are laws that can be enforced if you endanger another person.  Who does it endanger or put at risk to marry the love of your life?  To possibly adopt and raise beautiful children who were in need of a loving home?  So far, I don't know about you, but that's all I've been seeing these supposed "abominations" doing.  They are living their lives and wanting what everyone else does, happiness.  Why is this great nation trying to prevent them from having the American Dream?  Really think about this topic.  Really think about why giving every human in this nation the American Dream is so horrible.  Unhappy people try to prevent others from being happy.  Misery loves company.  The next time you use the Bible as an answer to the gay rights questions why don't you practice what you preach?  Isn't there a saying "what would Jesus do".  Take that to heart.  What would he do?  From what I remember, he accepted everyone for who they were and I think you should too.
Peace, love, and butterflies.....
