"Brewers, Jungmann try to finish sweep of Bucs
By Brandon Curry / MLB.com | + 2 COMMENTS
The last time Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann pitched against the Pirates was his first. The rookie right-hander made his first career start against Pittsburgh back on June 9, and he'll square off with the Bucs and starter Jeff Locke on Sunday as the Brewers go for a sweep of a three-game set at Miller Park.
Jungmann and his cross-body delivery have fooled opponents through his first seven starts as a big leaguer. The 25-year-old carries a 2.15 ERA into Sunday's finale. He kept the Pirates to three hits and a run over seven innings during that June 9 start, striking out five.
"The crossfire in his delivery presented some deception," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Jungmann, "We had to cover 17-18 miles from curve to fastball, and we couldn't get barrel to him. He had one shot to make a first impression, and we had one against him. Obviously, he came out on top."
Locke recorded his last win on July 4 against Cleveland, after tossing eight innings and not allowing a run. The lefty hasn't surrendered a home run in his last six starts.
Things to know about the game
• Locke's first two starts of the 2015 season were against Milwaukee. He went 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in those games and holds a career 3.46 ERA against the Brewers.
• Chris Stewart will catch for the Pirates in a day game after night game. Pittsburgh is 17-4 when he starts.
• Brewers first baseman Adam Lind did not start on Saturday as left-hander Francisco Liriano was slated to start for Pittsburgh. Although Liriano was scratched before the game, Lind wasn't put into the lineup. He is slated to start Sunday with the lefty Locke scheduled for the Pirates.
