After an historic day at Nationals Park, the Pirates will have to dig deep to bounce back from Max Scherzer's no-hitter when they play in the finale on Sunday afternoon. Pittsburgh won eight straight games coming into D.C., but the club needs a win behind Charlie Morton (5-0, 1.62 ERA) to avoid being swept in a three-game series for the first time since May 1-3 in St. Louis.
Scherzer's gem secured Washington's first series win since it took two of three against the Cubs on May 25-27.
Gio Gonzalez (4-4, 4.82 ERA) will have the unenviable task of following Scherzer in the 1:35 p.m. ET series finale for the Nationals.
Things to watch in this game
• Morton has made five starts this season since recovering from September hip surgery. He's earned the win in all five starts and has tossed at least seven innings in four of those outings.
• After missing one game with a mild left hamstring strain, Bryce Harper returned to the Nationals' lineup Saturday. He went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single.
• Gonzalez will be tasked with keeping All-Star Andrew McCutchen quiet. McCutchen has gone 18-for-52 (.346) with 11 extra-base hits including five home runs in his last 13 games at Nationals Park.
