The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Matt Murray from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
The Penguins also re-assigned defenseman David Warsofsky to WBS on a LTI conditioning assignment.
Murray, 21, played four NHL games with Pittsburgh earlier this season, going 2-1-1 with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage. He gave up two or less goals in all four starts.
The reigning AHL goaltender and rookie of the year, Murray has followed his strong debut with a fantastic sophomore campaign, going 19-9-1 with a 2.11 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage and four shutouts in 30 games.
Murray currently owns both the third-best goals-against average and save percentage in the AHL.
The recall of Murray gives the Penguins four of their top-five selections from the 2012 NHL Draft at CONSOL Energy Center on the current NHL roster. Murray joins fellow third-round selection Oskar Sundqvist, and first-round picks Derrick Pouliot and Olli Maatta.
Teddy Blueger, who was selected in the second round in ‘12, is a senior at Minnesota State this year, and is his club’s leading scorer.
Warsofsky, 25, has been sidelined since Jan. 17 when he suffered a concussion against Carolina following a neutral-zone collision with one of the referees. He has one goal in 12 NHL games with Pittsburgh this year."
