LAYER UPDATES
Head coach Mike Johnston provided a couple of detailed injury updates following practice.
- On Blake Comeau, who has missed the last 18 games with a upper-body injury after getting hurt on Dec. 22 vs. Florida...
"'Comes,' right now, is cleared to start shooting. So that’s the main thing for him, is to get cleared to start shooting. He’s been skating on his own, or with Mike Kadar, so his conditioning and skating is getting up to the level where we need. But it’s now handling a puck, shooting, taking slapshots, that type of thing. He will not play on this trip. But we’re hoping he’ll be available sometime into next week."
Johnston confirmed that today was the first day that Comeau had taken shots.
"He started to work it. And it may be a slower process than we think, but we’ll see. As you know, when players start to join the team then they’re close to playing. He hasn’t done that yet for a full practice."
- On Christian Ehrhoff, who has missed the last three games (concussion protocol) after getting injured on Jan. 28 at Washington...
"He’s working out now on a regular basis, so that’s a really good sign. I believe he has started to skate. So I’m waiting for some updates on that, but I believe he is starting to skate. So I know he was doing the workouts and he was going to skate, and then hopefully when we get back he’ll actually be able to take (part) in a couple practices."
- Finally, Johnston added that winger Beau Bennett, who has been a healthy scratch for two of the last three games, will likely play at least one of the remaining two games of their western Canadian trip.

PRACTICE IN CALGARY
The term "Throwback Thursday" was definitely applicable to the Pens this afternoon in Calgary, as they flashed back to when they were kids and had put all of their gear on in the back of their parents' car as they rushed to hockey from school, another sport, etc. The Pens got dressed in their locker room at the Scotiabank Saddledome, where they will play the Flames tomorrow night, before walking or bussing across the street for their practice at the Stampede Corral. The Flames played their first three seasons there back in the 1980s before the Saddledome was built.
All of the Pens were present at the skate. Injured forward Blake Comeau (upper body; 18 games) took the ice as the session was wrapping up to work on his own.
Our own Sam Kasan, who is on the road with the team, got nailed with a puck at practice but played through the pain to provide a ton of pictures from the day. He's a true gamer, that one. (For those concerned, he's still being evaluated for a lower-body injury)."
