The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Derrick Pouliot from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Pouliot, 22, was recently selected to play in his second-consecutive AHL All-Star Classic as one of three WBS representatives alongside goalie Matt Murray and rookie forward Dominik Simon.
The 6-foot, 208-pound Pouliot leads all WBS defensemen and ranks seventh (tied) in the AHL as of Sunday evening with 23 points (6G-17A) in 37 games. His plus-16 is tied for the WBS team lead.
Last year the Weyburn, Saskatchewan native appeared in 34 NHL games with Pittsburgh, totaling two goals, five assists and seven points. Pouliot tallied his first NHL goal on Dec. 20, 2014 against the Florida Panthers at CONSOL Energy Center.
Pittsburgh’s first-round (8th overall) draft pick in 2012, Pouliot has amassed 47 points (13G-34A) in 68 career AHL regular-season contests. He has three points (1G-2A) in seven AHL postseason games.
The Penguins look to extend their four-game point streak (2-0-2) tonight when they face the St. Louis Blues at 8 p.m. at the Scottrade Center."
