The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forwards Bryan Rust and Bobby Farnham from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Forward Jayson Megna was re-assigned to WBS.
Rust and Farnham will be looking to make their NHL debuts tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Rust, 22, helped the WBS Penguins earn a 4-1 win against Bridgeport yesterday by scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner. Rust now leads WBS with 10 goals this year. He has 14 points in 25 AHL games.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Rust has three goals in three games during the month of December. His two tallies last night marked his third multi-goal game of the year.
A native of Pontiac, Michigan, Rust was drafted by the Penguins in the third round (80th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft. He played four seasons at Notre Dame, leading the squad with 17 goals as a senior last year.
Farnham, 25, has one goal, four points and a team-leading 113 penalty minutes in 23 games played for WBS.
Last season the 5-foot-10, 188-pound Farnham established AHL career highs with seven goals and 14 points in 64 games. His 166 penalty minutes were second on the club.
Farnham, who is from North Andover, Massachusetts, is in his third season with WBS. He has 29 points (11G-18A) and 553 penalty minutes in 152 regular-season contests with WBS. He has played in 18 AHL playoff contests for WBS, and also skated in six AHL games with Worcester and Providence at the conclusion of the 2011-12 campaign.
Signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent, Farnham attended Brown University for four seasons. As a senior he served as an alternate captain and he won the New England Unsung Hero Award."
Megna probably sent down as a result of his play last night, committing 4 minor penalties. Not a good sign considering he was playing with a lot of energy as of late.
