The Pirates and Cubs will wrap up their three-game series at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, with right-hander Kyle Hendricks looking to complete the sweep opposite Pittsburgh's Gerrit Cole.
Hendricks is still looking for his first win of the season. He didn't factor into the decision in his last start against the Pirates, giving up three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Cole, meanwhile, is off to an unbeaten start. The 24-year-old right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.19 ERA in four starts this year after holding the D-backs to one run over 7 2/3 innings Friday in Arizona.
Things to know about this game
• Cole's young career includes plenty of success against the Cubs. The right-hander is 5-0 with a 3.48 ERA in five career starts against Chicago. He went 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts last season, including two victories at Wrigley Field, where he is 3-0 in his career.
• Similarly, Kris Bryant has thrived against the Pirates in the first few weeks of his big league career. After ripping an RBI single to left field in the fourth inning Tuesday night, Bryant was 9-for-22 (.409) with three doubles and nine RBIs against Pittsburgh and 5-for-18 (.277) with one RBI against the rest of the league.
• Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is two hits shy of 1,000 for his career.
