The Pirates and Cubs will continue their three-game series at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, with lefties Jeff Locke and Travis Wood set to square off.
Locke's last start came against the Cubs on Thursday at PNC Park, where he gave up four runs and struck out seven over five innings. Locke is 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in six career starts against the Cubs.
Wood faced the Pirates last Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings. Wood's only win this season came at home, as he threw seven shutout innings to beat the Reds at Wrigley on April 15.
Things to know about this game
• Pirates second baseman Neil Walker extended his hitting streak to 10 games Monday night with a fourth-inning single to right field.
• With their bullpen back in order, the Cubs optioned reliever Brian Schlitter to Triple-A Iowa and recalled outfielder Junior Lake on Monday. Manager Joe Maddon said the Cubs could use Lake in the infield, though he's primarily been an outfielder.
• Pirates right fielder Gregory Polanco was scratched from Monday's starting lineup because of tightness in his left groin. He was scheduled to be evaluated during Monday's game. With a lefty starting for the Cubs, it's possible the Bucs will insert Corey Hart or Sean Rodriguez into the lineup.
