"Bucs need win to ensure home-field edge in WC

The Pirates and Reds will wrap up the regular season Sunday afternoon at PNC Park. Cincinnati may not have much left to play for, but there is much at stake for Pittsburgh heading into the postseason.
With their loss Saturday night, and the Cubs' 1-0 win over the Brewers, the Pirates must win their 3:05 p.m. ET season finale against the Reds -- or hope the Cubs lose to the Brewers -- in order to secure home-field advantage for Wednesday's National League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser. The game is available to stream free out of market on MLB.TV, presented by AT&T. Blackout restrictions apply.
• Explaining possible tiebreakers for postseason
The Cubs won their season series against the Pirates, so they would hold the edge in a potential tiebreaker to determine where the NL Wild Card Game is played. If they finish with identical records, the game will be held at Wrigley Field.
That makes Sunday's game a must-win for the Pirates, who hope to host their third straight NL Wild Card Game at PNC Park. They'll look to put away the Reds -- and the Cubs, by extension -- behind left-hander J.A. Happ.
Happ is 6-1 with a 1.53 ERA over his last nine starts with the Pirates. He will line up against Reds rookie right-hander Josh Smith, who is looking to reverse Cincinnati's 13-game losing skid into a season-ending two-game winning streak.
Things to know about this game
• Happ was on track for perhaps his best start of the season Monday against the Cardinals, allowing one hit and striking out four over six scoreless innings while throwing only 56 pitches before being lifted for a pinch-hitter. The last time he faced the Reds, Happ struck out 10 and permitted only two runs over six innings.
• Smith's start will be the Reds' 110th and last by a rookie pitcher this season, extending their single-season modern club record. It will also be Cincinnati's 64th consecutive start by a rookie pitcher, a streak that began on July 29.
• While the Pirates' focus will be on the field at PNC Park, fans might want to also keep an eye on the out-of-town scoreboard in right field. The Cubs and Brewers will play at 3:10 p.m. ET at Miller Park.
