"Locke, DeSclafani set for NL Central matchup

The Pirates will continue their trek through the National League Central this week. Next stop: Cincinnati, for a three-game series with the Reds at Great American Ball Park, starting with Monday's Labor Day matinee at 1:10 p.m. ET.
As well as the Bucs have fared this season -- they're still comfortably atop the NL Wild Card standings and 5 1/2 games back of the Cardinals in the division -- they have struggled within their own division, particularly against the Reds. With six meetings left, Cincinnati enters this week with a 9-4 advantage in the season series against Pittsburgh.
For the Pirates, this is their third of five straight series against the NL Central and the final leg of an intradivisional road trip that started in Milwaukee and St. Louis. The Reds are in the middle of a similar stretch; this is their fourth of five straight NL Central matchups.
Things to know about this game
• Left-hander Jeff Locke will take the mound for Pittsburgh, potentially with his rotation spot on the line. Locke struggled through a 3 2/3-inning start in Milwaukee on Wednesday and owns a 5.88 ERA in the second half.
• Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani is slated to start for the Reds. The rookie right-hander has pitched well against the Pirates this year, recording a 3.18 ERA in three starts, but he is still looking for his first win against the Bucs.
• Reds third baseman Todd Frazier has bewildered the Pirates' staff for some time, but he's been particularly devastating this year, with a .314/.375/.686 batting line and five homers in 12 games. He's a career .391/.426/.696 hitter against Locke. The red-hot Joey Votto has been nearly as effective, posting a .480 on-base percentage when facing Locke.
