"Bucs bring Happ to extend dominance over Fish
By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com | + 1 COMMENTS
Swept by the Pirates in a three-game series in late May at PNC Park, the Marlins look to play the role of spoiler against Pittsburgh, beginning Monday night at Marlins Park. The four-game set begins at 7:10 p.m. ET, with Miami going with Tom Koehler, while the Pirates counter with lefty J.A. Happ.
Koehler (8-11, 4.02 ERA) is 4-3 with a 3.07 ERA at home, but the right-hander is going through a tough stretch -- losing his last five starts with a 7.48 ERA in that span.
The Pirates acquired Happ from the Mariners on July 31, and he's 1-1 (2.87 ERA) in three starts since the trade. The left-hander was 4-6 (4.64) in 108 2/3 innings in Seattle.
The Bucs have dominated the series since 2012 at Pittsburgh, winning 11 of 12. In Miami, the results have been even at 4-4.
Things you need to know
• Ichiro Suzuki, who is 77 hits shy of 3,000, was given Sunday off. The 41-year-old tends to not start against left-handers, but that may not be the case with Happ. Ichiro is 4-for-7 with two doubles against the veteran southpaw.
• Monday represents the return of Michael Morse, who opened the season as the Marlins' starting first baseman. Morse is getting some starts at first, and he's also coming off the bench for Pittsburgh. He's hitting .147 (11-for-75) with two doubles and six RBIs at Marlins Park this year.
• Andrew McCutchen is 2-for-4 with a home run off Koehler.
