"Pirates look to solve Bumgarner at home

When San Francisco plays Pittsburgh on Friday, Giants ace Madison Bumgarner will make his first start at PNC Park since tossing a shutout in the 2014 National League Wild Card Game.
Bumgarner (14-6, 2.98 ERA) struck out 10 and walked one in the Giants' 8-0 win over the Pirates, helping propel them to the World Series.
The 26-year-old southpaw has had similar success in recent starts. Bumgarner has gone 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA (two earned runs in 25 1/3 innings) with 35 strikeouts and one walk in his last three appearances.
In his last outing, Bumgarner threw his third complete game and first shutout of the season, matching his career high in punchouts (14) while taming the Nationals.
Things to know about this game
• The Giants acquired Marlon Byrd from the Reds on Thursday, and he is expected to play Friday night.
San Francisco picked a good time to bring Byrd into the mix. The 37-year-old veteran -- a former Pirate -- totes a .339 batting average (19-for-56) and has hit five home runs against Pittsburgh this season.
• Starting opposite Bumgarner will be Pirates left-hander Jeff Locke.
The Pirates are 9-4 in Locke's home starts -- and he owns a 3.16 ERA in those appearances -- but in two career outings against San Francisco he has surrendered nine earned runs in 9 1/3 innings.
• Bumgarner hasn't just been getting it done on the mound.
The left-handed pitcher -- but right-handed hitter -- has a .255 batting average and four home runs, the most by a pitcher this season. It's his second consecutive season with four homers.
