"Mets, Colon look to stay hot vs. visiting Bucs

Two weeks ago, this three-game weekend series between the Mets and Pirates at Citi Field figured to be an intriguing matchup between two of the best pitching staffs in baseball. When J.A. Happ and Bartolo Colon oppose each other Friday, it'll be more than just intriguing; it could be pivotal.
The surging Mets, coming off a four-game sweep of the Rockies, have overtaken the Nats for first place in the NL East. They have solidified themselves as serious contenders, entering the stretch run with a scalding 14-4 record since July 25. The Bucs are second in the Central, and they occupy the first National League Wild Card spot.
Things to know about this game
• Mets and Pirates starters rank among the best in the National League in terms of ERA. But it's mainly the back ends of those rotations that will be featured in this series before Matt Harvey starts for the Mets on Sunday. Colon owns a 5.31 ERA over his last 14 starts after starting the season 6-2.
• Happ's had a similarly seesaw-type season. He pitched to a 3.31 ERA over his first 11 starts for the Mariners, and to a 6.80 ERA in 10 outings since, including one start for the Pirates. He was briefly demoted to the bullpen following his Bucs debut after he gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings.
• The Pirates swept a three-game series from the Mets in Pittsburgh in May, outscoring New York 21-4 in the process. But the Mets have revamped their lineup considerably since then, and one of the Pirates starters to record a victory during that series, A.J. Burnett, is on the disabled list.
