"Cole, Iglesias set for third tilt of series
By Robert Bondy / MLB.com | + 2 COMMENTS
Stellar right-hander Gerrit Cole will look to cool off red-hot Joey Votto on Saturday night when the Pirates and Reds continue their four-game series from Great American Ball Park. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET.
The Votto-Cole matchup will feature a battle between one of the game's hottest hitters and the Major League leader in wins. Votto has reached base in 21 consecutive games and leads the National League in multihit games, while Cole went 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA in four July starts. Cole currently has the advantage in the lifetime series, holding Votto to only 2-for-9 with one RBI and four strikeouts.
Rookie righty Raisel Iglesias will get the nod for the Reds on the mound. Iglesias is 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA in nine appearances, including seven starts, this season. He went at least six innings for only the second time this season in his last start on Monday against the Cardinals, with his other lengthy start coming in his only victory on May 13 against the Braves.
Things to know about this game
• Reds right fielder Jay Bruce got the night off on Friday and should return to the lineup on Saturday. Bruce -- who many thought would be traded on Friday -- has a .250 batting average with one double, one RBI and two strikeouts in 12 career at-bats against Cole.
• While Cole has picked up 14 wins this season, none have came against the Reds. He is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts against Cincinnati this season.
• Newly acquired first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse and left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ could join the Pirates for Saturday's game. Pittsburgh traded away outfielder Jose Tabata to get Morse from the Dodgers and Minor League pitcher Adrian Sampson to get Happ from the Mariners on Friday.
• Iglesias is 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA in three starts since returning from the disabled list with a left oblique strain.
