Fruit of My Spirit Book Review

By Upatdawn @lisakeva
Fruit of My Spirit is a candid, introspective memoir written by Deanna Nowadnick which chronicles key turning points in her life as related to the fruits of the Spirit.
Fruit of My Spirit Book Review "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5:22-23"
Written from a perspective much different from my own, this book is a personal testament to healing past hurts.
"As I go forth with God, my efforts to reframe life's experiences are not just redecorating projects; they're an opportunity to look back and see His love and forgiveness, to recognize the fruit of His Holy Spirit in my life.  More importantly, they're the chance to see a bigger purpose, something that's been easy to overlook.  God created me in His image.  I was blessed to be a blessing.  God picked me for a special purpose...."
Interwoven through this story are the fruits of the Spirit:
Self-Control (Learning how to speak)
"The love of God's Holy Spirit has become the love of my own spirit, a love that God has helped me to share with two young men."
Peace (Camping)
"God took my painful past and granted me His complete forgiveness.  God turned my focus from the comforts of this world to real comfort-peace in Him.  God took my fear and replaced it with the courage to let go and let Him."
Joy (Making Noise)
"More importantly, He showed me the difference between my own personal happiness and divine joy, one fleeting and frequently overshadowed by life's heartaches, the other eternal and without compare."
Goodness (Having children)
"I needed help.  I had to have a relationship with God.  I needed more than books on parenting; I needed His Word on living.  I needed more than Sesame Street to help with early childhood growth and development; I needed to grow as a child of God myself, so I could help two little boys grow as children of God.  Knowing that, God surrounded me with the most remarkable family and church family who nurtured and sustained me."
Gentleness (Bingeing)
"My refusal to accept God's love and guidance was destroying me physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  Unable to "delight in God's will and walk in His ways""....
Faithfulness (Resting in a relationship with God)
"As life changed, as people came and went, as a small community quietly closed its doors, God's love and grace were unwavering, caring for all humankind while never losing sight of a young woman and her family.  In a world of disposables, in a time when somethings obsolete, if not new and improved, God remained faithful.  To a girl who questioned and strayed and struggled and failed, God remained faithful."

Summing up this inspirational book best:
"My shortcoming and failings are the very tools He needs for the work ahead.  God has chosen me to be a witness to the life that's possible in Him and through Him. "
