I’m a fan of everything Jose Gonzalez has done — the man is a Swedish gold mine. Over the past ten years, he’s managed to balance a successful career as both a solo artist and member of the band Junip. In 2010, the band released their debut LP Fields, a collection of songs that served as the soundtrack to my commute for many months. Last December, they announced that their upcoming self-titled LP will be released in April, and we now have a taste of what’s in store with their first single, “Line of Fire”.
“Line of Fire” is a swelling ride with Gonzalez’s vocals holding the reins. As the song progresses, the layers grow, building a wall of sound that’s reinforced with orchestral strings and Mellotron. The track expresses a greater sense of urgency than anything I’ve yet to hear from Junip. “Line of Fire”‘s pulse demands that you hit repeat, and I certainly did multiple times.
