From Now On, Google Will Protect You From Websites With Fake Download Buttons

Posted on the 05 February 2016 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

Google is finally taking action to protect its users from these scammy ads and websites that advertise them.

From now on, you will receive a warning message from Google whenever you try to visit a website with fake download buttons, ads that tell you to install Flash Player, or even ads that asks you update your software. Of course, you’ll have to be using Google Chrome for this feature to work.

If a website shows ads with either of the followings:

  • Pretend to act, or look and feel, like a trusted entity — like your own device or browser, or the website itself.
  • Try to trick you into doing something you’d only do for a trusted entity — like sharing a password or calling tech support.

That website will be effected by the Google’s new Safe Browsing protection, which Google considered to be as social engineering.
