“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

I was friendly with a band in the ’90s that was touring in Germany when their lead singer fell off a stage. As he was being rushed to the hospital, German paramedics were blasting him with questions none of which he could answer. He was terrified. I am blessed that I have no major health issues. But what happens to me if I get hurt or ill while traveling? I can mime “broken arm” or “chest pains” but how would I explain if I was allergic to latex or penicillin if I don’t speak the language? What happens if I’m unconscious?

Vagaband

I am so relieved that I can simply buy Vagaband. Vagaband is a virtually indestructible, updateable bracelet for adventurers, travelers, and explorers. It folds out to reveal a sheet large enough to contain any essential emergency medical and contact information that a traveler might need. If you keep all your medical information on your phone, that’s great, but what if your phone is dead? How does the medical staff know how to find it on your phone? What if your phone is locked and you can’t speak the language to tell helpers how to unlock it? Your wrist band will give them all the info the medical staff will need to ensure you get the proper care.

Priced at a very affordable rate, you can easily purchase a different one for each country and they make fun and beautiful keepsakes. They come with a card you can place in your wallet next to your ID, as medical staffs are trained to check wallets for ID letting them know to check your wrist for medical information.  Vagabands recommends pencil for filling out forms (ink can bleed).

Frankly, this item brings so much peace of mind, I can’ imagine traveling without one.  check out Vagaband here.

What are your tips for staying safe and health while traveling?
