I was meeting my roommate for a movie one Saturday. I killed time at a thrift store. My roomie agreed to meet me at the store which was only a couple of blocks from the theater. For over an hour I picked through items finding nothing. Then roomie showed up. The movie was starting in less than 20 minutes. He said, "don't worry this won't take long." He browsed the racks for all of 5 minutes and then went to the register with a Versace dress. He later sold it for $250 on ebay. I think he is some sort of mad genius. What other explanation could there be?
I absolutely adore thrift shopping. You can get some amazing bargains, it reduces waste, it's a win, win. Only one problem; You must sort through pounds of clothes (whose hygiene is questionable) to find anything.
Of course, I know that moment that makes it all worth it. You find a practically new sweater or a fantastic winter coat that fits you perfectly and costs $5! It's like winning the lottery. But no one is getting any younger. Is this really what you want to spend your Saturday doing?

Now you don't have to. Thred Up is an online consignment/thrift shop. You can set your size and other preferences, so no searching in vain through a dozen racks. Hundreds of items are brand new with tags (and new stuff comes in every day!) and since it's not a thrift store run by a resentful skeleton crew (seriously google Salvation Army and Corruption it will curl your hair) all items are clean and functional. There are surprising amount of designer items. I get the feeling items are leftover from samples sales but couldn't confirm it. Visit the site here.
There are a few downsides. There's a restocking fee (it's not much) when you return something. And if you see something you love you need to buy it NOW. I saw an amazing orange dress and came back two days later to buy it. Gone. Once you put something in your cart you only have 12 hrs until it goes back onto the site.
