Friday’s Fab Find: PONO Jewelry by Joan Goodman

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

Pono JewelryI met Joan Goodman, the designer of PONO jewelry nearly two decades ago when I was a fashion designer and used to call on her at Bobbi Trim Ltd., one of the most fashion forward button manufacturers and distributors in New York City. She was and continues to be the president and creative director.   Joan and I hit it off immediately and have stayed in touch over the years.  I remember when she launched PONO, jewelry that offers timeless pieces that are creative, colorful, conscious and collectible.  Rendered in materials as diverse as horn, wood, metal, shell and beautiful Italian resins-transformed by shape and texture into art that one wears, it was Joan’s knowledge of these materials that came from years as president and creative director of Bobbi Trim Ltd.

PONO, a Hawaiian word for “goodness” in all its forms, is a jewelry brand that works with the intention of being anchored, expressive and illuminating not just in its finished works but in its design, manufacturing and business practices as well.  The line is produced in Italy by true artisans who possess an exceptional attention to detail.  PONO reflects Joan’s life experiences: mixing the exotica of Hawaii, Italian sophistication, NYC urban chic and a love of nature and the planet.

PONO is known and loved by many, including costume designers Dan Lawson of CBS’s “The Good Wife” and Jenn Rogien of HBO’s “GIRLS.”  In fact, while having dinner with both of them last year, we had a “You know Joan?  I love Joan!  PONO is amazing!” moment when Jenn and Dan found out I had a love for PONO in common with both of them.  I guess Joan’s ears were burning that night.
