“Tired minds don’t plan well. Sleep first, plan later.” – Walter Reisch

I don’t know you. I haven’t met you(probably). But, I bet there is one thing we have in common; we aren’t getting enough sleep.

It’s becoming a serious issue in America. In 2013 average American reported getting 6.8 hours of sleep with roughly 40% reporting they get less than 6 hours a night. In 1910 the average America clocked NINE hours a night.

But they didn’t have Twitter back then, did they? Our culture of sleeplessness has been propelled by technologies like the light bulb and the Internet, which have given us more opportunities to stay awake in an increasingly 24/7 world.  A host of studies and reports has linked insufficient sleep to depressionADHDobesityType 2 diabetescardiovascular diseasecancer, and Alzheimer’s. Back in 2014, the CDC labeled sleep deprivation a public health epidemic

With that in mind, July’s Fab finds are going to be devoted to devices and services along with tips and advice on how to get a good night’s rest.

Buffy Comforters

I’ve never been a fan of summer, but this year I really hate it because it’s SUPER HOT and I want to snuggle with my new Buffy Comforter!

An ecologically responsible company Buffy uses sustainable sources and recycled plastic as a material for their comforters.  They are made from eucalyptus fiber, a sustainable form of rayon. It’s sourced from the wood pulp of renewable eucalyptus trees, which consume 10x less water than cotton to cultivate, and transformed into fiber using a closed-loop system which reuses 99% of solvents to create little-to-no waste.

And the fill is 100% recycled BPA-free, PET plastic water bottles. These bottles are diverted from oceans and landfills, transformed, and given a second life as a soft, fluffy fiber.

Try it free for a week. If you don’t love it you can return it. Visit the Buffy site here.

Other Good Sleep Tips

  • Exercise is important, not just for overall health but for sound sleep, but make sure any strenuous workout is completed at least two hours before bedtime.
  • On days I can’t make it to a gym and the weather won’t let me go outside, I still want to squeeze in a little exercise so I can fall asleep quickly. I turn to the Fitness Marshall for a quick workout so at least I can wear myself out a little.  His workouts can be adapted for all fitness levels and require no equipment. Plus, who doesn’t love dancing to Britney?

What sleep issues have you struggled with? What do you do to get a good nights sleep? Sound off, readers!
