This year, I was drawn to plunging necklines, dramatic colors, and geometric silhouettes by way of Kelly Rowland, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Rihanna. Yes, their dresses are beautiful but what I really love and admire is that each of their gowns connote fresh twists on their personal styles.
Coming off her Superbowl high, Kelly's George Chakras geometric cut-out mermaid dress screams sexy, edgy, and confident. She usually wears bandage dresses so I'm happy to see her experimenting with dramatic shapes and patterns.
I'm used to seeing Katy in skintight siren dresses that highlight her bombshell cleavage and this Gucci number does just that...and more. The minty color provides a refreshing and soothing color palette that stands out on the red carpet.
Taylor Swift seems to be growing up in front of our very eyes as her J. Mendel modern Grecian princess gown is fierce yet womanly.
Rihanna's tangerine red Alaia gown is actually quite tame by Rihanna standards but nonetheless bold and beautiful. The cascading train and sheer fabric kind of blows my mind.
Okay, these red carpet gowns are fabulous but definitely out of reach for us mere mortals. Plus, they would be a pain to wash! Chiffon would fly everywhere! So, I found a couple of attainable substitutes that can look fresh and new even after a few washes...with the help of Gain laundry detergent and fabric softeners!
