Four Faces of Britain

Posted on the 05 August 2012 by Flip

ON a day that marked the 12 month anniversary of the London Riots…

On a day that saw the the most remarkable set of athletes give their all in the Olympics to win gold…

On a day that saw a bunch of lesser known professional footballers capitulate and completely miss the whole point of the Olympic spirit…

We saw that nasty bunch of thugs the so called English Defence League (EDL) demonstrate in Keighly Yorkshire…

Ah my country…

If ever it showed its many sides it was this glorious golden Saturday…

Football in the Olympics

I’m a massive football fan ~ but I’m sorry football should not be in the Olympic games…

Or at least professional players (except maybe retired) should be not be eligible to play…

Watching the Team GB X1 play South Korea was not so much embarrassing as annoying…

There was still the diving ~ the arguing with the ref ~ the terrible tackles etc etc…

The ethos of the sport and especially the players mindset does not sit comfortably with the games…

Where was the passion..? The team spirit..? The do or die for your country..?

Naw ~ boot football out of the games ~ or change the rules and let amateurs back in…

London’s Calling

Looking back 12 months ago and London was on fire ~ literally…

Gangs had lain siege to the capital and turned it into a rioting no-go area…

Other cities quickly followed and Britain was burning…

Last night London and indeed the country was on fire for all the right reasons…

It was a glorious day for Team GB with medals in every discipline…

From rowing to tennis ~ cycling to athletics…

Four Faces of Britain

Our athletes of all colours and creeds came under the Union Jack…

And gave their all ~ and then some ~ it was magnificent truly truly magnificent…

Our young sportsmen and women did this country and indeed our flag proud…

And showed the Union Jack belongs to us and NOT the right wing…

Twitter as always had it’s finger on the pulse and captured the spirit of the night…

Mo Farah came to this country as a Somalian refugee. Put that in your pipe and smoke it @MailOnline

Cannock may hear a loud bang later. @AidanBurleyMP will explode as the daughter of an immigrant and public sector worker wins #Olympic gold.

Yes this is the true Britain in 2012…

Multicultural and proud…

Now excuse me I’m off to read about the rules of sailing…

Ben Ainsely hits the water later…
