Do I know the real reason why I should go to church?
Sometimes you have to hear the same thing over and over again for it to sink in. Right? We often ask ourselves, why does this keep happening to me? Some of us reach out to our friends for insight on the situation itself. Often times we overlook the obvious, ourselves. If you’re like me, you lean on your faith to sort out your thoughts. You might find yourself going to church in your Sunday best, hoping to hear an answer to your questions in the readings or the homily.
What is the point of going to church?Today Daniel and I visited St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church in Monroe, CT. …Normally we would attend my parish in Bridgeport but we’re babysitting his nephew so his brother can celebrate his six year anniversary with his wife. Happy Anniversary to S & K! … The homily went into further explanation of why the anniversary of Corpus Christi is so imortant. The first reading explains the sharing of the bread and wine. This scene helps lay out the main ingredients for the reason why we go to church and celebrate Mass.
Going to church IS a celebration!
Today’s second reading shares with us what we hear in Mass every Sunday. It is the sacred tradition that Jesus Christ passed down to us and we hear of how it began. On the night that Jesus was betrayed he gave us a precious gift. We are able to come together, as a united people, and share in his divinity. We see the miracle of bread being turned into the flesh of Jesus and wine into his blood. Is that not a great miracle or what? For an instant, every Sunday we take in HIS soul and divinity. We are one. We remember His sacrifice. We remember his death. We remember that he will come again to judge the living and the dead. We wait for his return.
Going to church can be about so many things, but during Mass let us not forget that we are remembering our Lord Jesus Christ, who sacrificed his life so that we may be free of sin…. we remember!
