Ford’s Tri-Motor aircraft, nicknamed “The Tin Goose,” was designed for airline travel. To overcome concerns of engine reliability, Ford specified three engines and added features for passenger comfort, such as an enclosed cabin. From 1926 through 1933, Ford Motor Company built 199 Tri-Motors. This example was first purchased by Pan American Airlines in 1928 and spent many years serving different airlines in Central America, eventually making its way back into the US flying folks over the Grand Canyon before being acquired by the museum in 1983.
