My friend Pete Nash has another interesting article from the Hauls of Shame web site about a photo of baseball pioneer Al Reach that was up for auction on eBay that was recently pulled and it is suspected it may have been stolen from the New York Public Library.
And yes, there is a Barry Halper connection.
Today is a significant day in Red Sox history.
It was ten years ago today that Carl Everett (pictured) saved all of us Red Sox fans from eternal shame (bad mouth him all you want but that moment in time made him OK in my book), by denying Mike Mussina a perfect game. Remember who he was pinch-hitting for? Yes, it was Joe Oliver (he's the guy smiling in the picture). Mike Greenwell drove in nine runs and singlehandedly beat Seattle, 9-8 in 1996, and David Ortiz made his debut on this day in 1997 (granted it was with the Twins).
Here's a really interesting article about September 2nd in baseball history from my friend Chris Jaffe of the Hardball Times.
