When Carli text me telling me about the lovely people at Jesmond Dene House inviting us over for Afternoon Tea on our Newcastle visit, I quickly headed to their website and went all googly eyed at the photographs. Upon visiting the place in the flesh, I was met with those very same googly eyes. Jesmond Dene House is a boutique hotel, which holds so much classic memory. It was once the home to Sir Andrew Noble and his family, where royals came and dined, then was turned into a school before the boutique’s owners bought the building in 2005. Since then, it captures the heart and eyes of anyone who is lucky enough to stay, or simply visit, the stunning hotel and gardens.
After a few strokes of the Hotel’s adopted cat, Riley, we were shown to the Restaurant where we were seated right near the window, overlooking the breath-taking greenery outside. We opted for the Champagne Afternoon Tea and were treated to the sweetest glass to get those taste buds alive and ready for the treat we were about to receive. The staff was very accommodating to my, erm, picky sandwich needs, and happily changed them to suit my requirements – polite and professional, yet super friendly.
The stand was brought over and we got snapping away as quickly as possible so we could get right to the devouring of it. Starting with our sandwiches, you get four, crust-cut-off choices (or two if you are me!), which are trimmed to perfection. The bread was super soft, and the meats cool yet fresh, making it the perfect start to a wonderful meal. We then turned to the scones of which we were given three each – plain, fruit and cheese. Amazing! We slathered on butter, clotted cream and strawberry and raspberry jam till our hearts were content, and boy, were they content.
We had a little breather as our pots of tea were brought over so we could chill and chat about all things blogging. There is nothing sweeter, calmer than chitchatting your life away with one of your bestest, surrounded by beautiful scenery and sipping on a fresh pot of tea. We then moved on (or tried) to the sweets; a chocolate orange macaron, rhubarb crumble, chocolate and marshmallow truffle and lemon sponge with cream cheese frosting – what a selection! I actually only managed the macaron before we asked for them to be boxed up to enjoy later, what a stuffing Afternoon Tea!
