Rock and Roll fans in Atlanta and all over the world celebrated Super Bowl Eve with Foo Fighters on Super Saturday Night!
DirecTV sponsored and live streamed the two and a half hour show, and they went all out. The stage set up was killer, the sound was solid, the lighting and visuals were an addition, not a distraction, and the video quality was top notch for a home viewing experience.
The show opened with a short set from Run The Jewels. The duo of Killer Mike and El-P hit the stage hard, acted as the perfect hype act for the show, and showed Atlanta and the world a little taste of what they bring to the table.
And then, it was time. Time for the biggest rock and roll band in the world today, nearly 25 years into their career, to take over and make the night theirs.
And they did.

Through a 17 song set (plus a medley of snippets and solos) the band served notice that they are who they've always been. Dave Grohl commanded the stage and the audience, revving up the energy, though he never really had to. And the entire band kept pace with their frontman.
Yes, we wish we could have been in Atlanta for the gig (and for the Super Bowl), but DirecTV's broadcast was everything we were promised and could have hoped for.

There were multiple quotable moments during the show because Dave Grohl is a quotable guy. There was "Holy Guacamole!", and "We're too old to break up now!" But in the end, my favourite was this...
This ain't no halftime shit, this is good time shit! - Dave Grohl.
Maybe that was some shade at the NFL and Maroon 5, maybe it was about a two-hour concert instead of an over-produced 15 or 20-minute spot. Maybe it was none of that. Who knows.
The best part of this, quotes and special guests and covers aside, was that this was a real concert. Yes, it was put on as a one-off because of all the Super Bowl. And yes, the stage and setting were constructed specifically for the show. But on stage, it was rock and roll and entertainment.
And after two hours, after sweat and swearing and shouting and singing and special guests and rock and roll, the show ended perfectly with Best Of You and Everlong.
Foo Fighters have been on the map since Dave Grohl recorded and released that first album back in 1995, and they are still strong. There were no stale moments in the show. There were no misses in the setlist. There was only energy and excitement and everything we love about live rock shows.
