25 years after Dave Grohl started Foo Fighters in a studio by himself and with a handful of cassette tapes, he's bringing the band back to their original tour stops as part of their quarter-century anniversary.
Dave, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami will make 10 stops on the 2020 Van Tour, including a Canadian date in Hamilton, ON at the FirstOntario Centre.
In a press release announcing the short trip down memory lane, the band says that this time around Foo Fighters will play "in arenas this time, because aside from many of those clubs on that 1995 trek having since ceased to exist, squeezing a 2020 FF show into the few that are still around would just be too insane... or would it? Stay tuned for the answer to that question. Or answers..."
Does this mean that the Foos are going to play surprise pop-ups at some or all of those original venues? Maybe. Should fans be ready for after-parties on show nights? Maybe. Is it exciting just thinking about the possibility? Yes!
The press release also says, "In addition to customary all-night rock n roll marathons... each and every 2020 Van Tour show will feature a very special opening attraction: A sneak peek at an excerpt from Dave Grohl's brand new documentary WHAT DRIVES US."
We don't know how the band is going to pick their openers, or who is in the running for that Hamilton gig. But we can't wait to find out!
In an Instagram post last month, the band promised that "some seriously crazy shit" was coming in 2020 to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary.
Now we know there's a new album on the way, festival dates booked to play for big crowds, and the 2020 Van Tour as well.
And we'll be ready for whatever else is coming. So stay tuned, we have a feeling we're going to be talking about Foo Fighters a lot in 2020!
