By Shugavery @ThinkIncognito
Since being a fashion icon isn't the job of Giovanna Battaglia, I decided gathering images of her work so that you could picture what she actually does

But before let me ask you, what do you do first when buying a fashion magazine ? a) You flip through it watching its pictures b) Read directly the article about its cover girl or boyc) Read meticulously its contents page after turning over pages and pages of ads, then decide to read what arouses the most your attentionI bet whatever your type* is, you are mostly to first pay attention to the pictures (NOT the ads) of the editorial. As a fashion magazine embodies a vision, an aesthetic, it HAS TO BE visual, and this is where the role of a fashion stylist comes into play.Giovanna said her ultimate dream was to be a fashion stylist. She even compared herself as a filter since doing her job means using many aesthetics in order to create a mood, a lifestyle matching both the vision of the editorial and the theme chosen for a particular edition. That is why fashion stylism is far from only putting clothes together. Our italianissima fashion stylist admitted having a weakness for accessories and overloading when working. Other traits characterizing her work are elegance, irony and surrealism. Here is a selection of pictures embodying the best her aesthetic (in my opinion) :

It is not the result of serependity if I selected such pictures for this particular edition of the Vogue family. Earlier I only stated her words but now let me tell you what I perceive. While seeing her works I felt Giovanna as someone who likes putting on a show, she is very theatrical in my opinion and what is more theatrical than exaggeration aka the overloading she mentioned before ? Another feeling I had was that she must be a very cultured person, attached to History, maybe a lover of XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth centuries but with a soft spot and nostalgy for the Baroque era, but that's just me guessin'.

Vogue Italia

Among the last pictures I chose, my most favorite are the 3 last ones. I didn't come to Italy for nothing. I love the language but not only. What makes my heart beat for this country and its people is the fact that wherever they are or whatever they do, they bring with them their culture, they don't forget who they are. The 3 last images for me are shouting "Italy, Italy, Italy". The first one obviously for the background but at this point it's the photographer eye, as for the model she reminds me a lot of the italian woman of the 60's for the colours of her clothing, the make up and hairstyle. The two last pictures are simply marvelous because both contemporary and recalling an Italy that is no more existing. I particularly love the last photograph because it really reminds of a painting belonging to a past era, furthermore the model has such an italian vibe because of her hairstyle and the melancholic look in her eyes. In an aside note I would like to add that though I am not a great fan of Franca Sozzani vision (see why here) I really appreciate the visual work of Vogue Italia. It definitely has a vibe that no other Vogue has, the pictures are enough. I mean if you show me a picture of Vogue Italia without telling me it's from there I will know because the italian edition has a very distinctive style regarding both photography and fashion styling.See I almost digressed, a thought which leads me to ask myself AND you, how fashion stylist and photographer are working together. After all this is a relationship nobody pays attention to when it is not to be neglected. So waiting for your opinion on the matter !*ps : I am definitely type C. So far there is only ONE fashion magazine that made me a mix of all the types mentioned : Citizen K International.
