Follow Friday! (4)

Just a fun little meme we’re excited to jump into. One of the best parts about having a book blog is the opportunity to be part of the awesome book blog community. We hope you’ll say hi here and introduce yourself, and leave us a link to your blog so we can come by and visit!

A little about us: Brian Rowe and Shaunta Grimes are both YA authors who love to read. Story Carnivores started as a tiny little YA book club that took on a life of its own. We write book reviews, film reviews, and love to feature author interviews and guest posts.

This week’s question:

Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?

Shaunta: I didn’t actually have a lot of books assigned to me in school. Even though I was eligible for honors and AP English classes in high school, I somehow managed to talk my parents into making the school let me take writing classes my Junior and Senior years, instead of literature classes. (That came back to bite me in the butt in college, when everyone else could skim through The Odyssey and Beowulff, because they’d already read them in high school!) I’ll tell you about a book I was required to read in college instead. Truman Copote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The movie was one of my favorite’s from childhood. Until I read the book. It is so perfect, that the movie just faded in comparison to the point that I don’t even want to watch it anymore.

Brian: My favorite book that I was required to read was Boy’s Life my Robert McCammon, which was my summer reading book the summer before my sophomore year of high school. It’s my favorite book of all time. It’s a beautiful coming of age story, that has elements of fantasy, horror, and humor. It brings to mind the classic films of Steven Spielberg.

What about you? What was your favorite must-read book from your school days?
