Five Ways to Wear Orange Jeans Without Looking Like a Traffic Cone

By Bridgetteraes @BridgetteRaes

five ways to wear orange jeans I read that orange will be the new black for spring/summer.  Ooh, Orange is the New Black!  Is anyone else obsessed with this show?  Season 2 CANNOT come fast enough.  More Crazy Eyes, please!

Anyway, I digress.

Orange is such a fun, fruity and summery color, especially after the long, hard winter many of us just lived through.  I am all over the idea of colorful jeans that I decided to focus today’s post in this series on five ways to wear orange jeans.

Orange is a color that many women shy away from because of its boldness and it not being a particularly great face color for most.  But, trust me, you don’t have to look like a human traffic cone (like this woman I saw on the subway last week does) to pull it off.  In fact, if you choose the right jeans shape, orange jeans, like the pair I am featuring from Boden below, can be the best way to pull off the embrace of the color.  With jeans the color is nowhere near your face.

That said, here are five ways to wear orange jeans.

One of the easiest colors to wear with orange is navy.  I loved the idea of this easy navy tunic from Modcloth to give these jeans a dressy, casual weekend look.  To add some sophisticated polish, I added a pair of ankle strap flats from Anthroplogie, a cream Vince Camuto handbag, a simple navy bracelet and gold honeycomb earrings.

As the weather slowly thaws, and spring starts showing its face, figuring out what to wear can get tricky.  On the one hand, summer clothes, open toed shoes and sundresses won’t work but everyone is so tired of their winter sweaters, muted colors and boots.  During transitional seasons wear your fun spring/summer pieces with your winter pieces to give them a jolt.  Here, for example, I paired a basic grey Athleta sweater with these orange jeans.  With these pieces, I added metallic ballerina flats from Corso Como, which will go with just about everything in your closet, and will take you well into the warmer months, a versatile metallic tote by Coach and finished the look with a statement necklace and simple earrings from Stella & Dot.

Once the weather gets warmer you can pack the cold weather items away and continue wearing the orange jeans into the summer.  Gone are the days where we completely pack away seasons.  Instead, seem some things as “stayers” meaning they never get packed away and that you will have more success with your clothing as you cycle out and cycle in your clothing based on temperature.

A color combination you may not have considered is purple and orange.  Too much of it may be a bit clownish, but, here I paired these orange jeans with a purple tank and cut the color with a Zara cardigan.  Who doesn’t love taking their cardigans into the spring?  What kept you warm during the cold months can become your outerwear pieces when the weather gets warm.  To finish the look, I added a colorful necklace from Blu Bijoux that brings in all the colors of the outfit, pewter flats from Modcloth and a grey and orange handbag from Fab.com.

At a loss as to new ways to wear a navy blazer?  Grab a pair of orange jeans, a basic white tee and some accessories and you’ve got yourself a fine spring outfit.  Here I used a classic navy blazer from J. Crew, a white t-shirt from Zara.  But don’t stop there.  Think about the outfit once the jacket is removed.  This is why accessorizing is so important.  Even without the blazer, the outfit looks finished with a turquoise handbag from Lodis, a Stella & Dot necklace and tan Modcloth oxfords.  On a casual workday you might even be able to wear this outfit to work.

Of course, the best thing about orange jeans is that you can wear any natural shade with them without looking bland.  Here a brown tank and cotton-linen kimono jacket from Mango.  If you’re worried about linen and linen blends wrinkling, use this test: crumple the fabric in your hand for about 10 seconds and release.  If the heat of your hand causes the fabric to wrinkle then it will wrinkle horribly when worn.

You can keep this outfit completely neutral and accessorize it with brown shoes or even metallic.  However, if you want a third punch of color, these colorful Modcloth loafers and turquoise earrings can add some subtle color pop.  And, for even more color you could add the turquoise bag from the previous look.  However, I decided to keep it simple with the cream Vince Camuto bag used earlier.
