While I have a policy never to shop for myself while shopping with clients, I stumbled on this T Tahari sweater vest and had to pick it up for myself. It was the day of the Polar Vortex and Lord & Taylor was having a ridiculous sale that I couldn’t pass up. I had been on the hunt for a drapey sweater vest and this one was exactly what I was looking for. It wasn’t even on the selling floor yet when I spotted it. I grabbed it off the rolling rack of items that were waiting waiting to be put out.
For today’s One Item, Five Fashionable Ways I decided to feature this piece to show ways to wear a sweater vest, because I think it can be a fun, versatile item that can easily finish a casual look. Here are five outfits, including some of the ways I have already worn this particular style.
Look #1
On Saturday night I had dinner with friends at a cozy, local restaurant in my neighborhood. I wore this outfit. The blouse in this photo isn’t the exact one I wore, I actually wore this one by Vince Camuto in ivory, which, unfortunately isn’t available in this color any longer. For illustrative purposes, I subbed in this Adrianna Papell top that comes close in style. I wore my favorite Levi’s Skinny Jeans and finished my outfit with my Latico copper handbag, my comfortable, yet stylish Gazelle boots from Naya, a pair of April Martin earrings (see similar here) and Ann Taylor gold and leather bracelet.
Look #2
Last night, I had dinner with my friends from the sun protection clothing company, Coolibar, while they were in town doing press meetings and previewing their upcoming line (which, I might add, is amazing) and threw on this vest again. This time, I chose to wear it with this skinny gray turtleneck, that I also happened to scoop up on serious sale at Lord & Taylor last week, my Sam Edelman Penny boots, the same bag as I used on Saturday, a gold cuff bracelet, similar to this one, and a pair of tortoise hoop earrings that looked something like these.
Look #3
Now, while I wouldn’t wear this vest with black, simply because I don’t wear black, I think this vest can really add some warmth to an all black look. This is what I love about camel– it’s versatility. It not only works with rich shades of browns but it also goes well with black. In this outfit, I paired it with a skinny pair of Reiss pants, a simple black top from Modcloth and finished the outfit with a pair of Aerin booties (which two of my clients have already purchased), and Ivanka handbag and Stella & Dot necklace and earrings.
Look #4
Another way I think this vest would look great, and I plan on wearing, is with a pair of olive skinny pants, like these from J. Crew, and a denim shirt, like this one, also by J. Crew. The outfit can be styled with rich finishes, like a pair of cognac boots and handbag, tortoise earrings and leather bracelet, all items I used in earlier looks.
Look #5
The last way I styled this outfit for today’s post (not for personal wearing) was by taking these grey and camel paisley printed pants by Mango and layered the same heather gray turtleneck, used previously, under the vest. Grey and camel is so rich together, so I finished this outfit with a pair of grey flat booties by Nine West, a grey handbag by Steve Madden, and grey and gold earrings by Foxy Originals.
