When the weather gets cold all I want to is wrap myself up in a chunky sweater. They are so cozy. I realize, however, that chunky sweaters aren't always figure flattering unless I want to look like Bibendum. Certainly there are times when weather and a desire for coziness win out and I just don't care. Also, being a knitter, chunky sweaters full of cables are like knitting porn to me. Bring on the blobbiness that a chunky sweater can cause!
Five Ways to Wear a Chunky Sweater
In today's post I am sharing five stylish ways to wear a chunky sweater because it can be all too easy to slip into the total comfort that comes with wearing a sweater like this. You don't have to sacrifice style for comfort. You can enjoy the coziness of chunky sweaters while also looking good. In this post I am styling this sweater from Rebecca Minkoff. Outfit #1
I styled this first look with a little polish to make it workable for a business casual environment. Underneath the sweater I added a chambray shirt from J. Crew and styled the look with a pair of cuffed ankle pants from Vince. I finished the look with a pair of ear crawlers from Nadri, a red tote from Loewe and block heel pumps in plaid from Marc Fisher.

Next, a more casual look that still keeps maintains polish. I styled the sweater with ankle length jeans from Kut from the Kloth and added these fun plum flat mules from Rag & Bone. The look is finished with a plaid blanket scarf and cognac bag from Vince Camuto.

This next outfit I styled with slim plaid pants. The pants are by David Lerner and allow you to do plaid without DOING plaid. For some color, and warmth on cold wet days, I added these burgundy booties from Aquatalia. I finished the look with a grey half-moon crossbody.

One thing I love to do is play with color and in this outfit I am turning a very casual look into something more interesting simply by the colors I used. I styled the sweater with olive skinny jeans by Wit and Wisdom, added yellow flats from Lauren Ralph Lauren, a rust colored blanket coat from Vince, resin earrings from Madewell and teal handbag from Hobo.

Heels can not only create an elevated look when paired with a chunky sweater, the height of the heels can also create a longer, leaner line which can also create a slimmer shape when wearing a chunky sweater. I used these cognac suede boots from Vince, layered a burgundy poncho from Halogen over the sweater and skinny jeans and finished the outfit with earrings from Nakamol design and pine green bag from Bp. Nordstrom.
