The first thought when styling a plaid shirt is to do it casually with a pair of jeans. In this first look, I gave this plaid shirt an upgrade by styling it with a cognac suede skirt from Reiss, weatherproof Aquatalia boots, a navy handbag from Botkier and hoop earrings from Lauren Ralph Lauren.

This more casual way to style a plaid shirt is easy for weekend chic. I layered a chunky sweater from Joie and a pair of slim boyfriend jeans from Frame. I finished the look with burgundy loafer flats from Steve Madden, cognac bag from Rebecca Minkoff and sunglasses from Tory Burch.

Here is another casual look to consider with your plaid shirt. Olive jeans are a nice switch-up from jeans and will work with whatever colors are in your plaid shirt. Next, I styled the plaid shirt for work. I styled the top with an ankle length pair of navy pants from Theory and layered a double breasted blazer from Veronica Beard over the shirt. I finished the outfit with a tan pair of suede pumps from Calvin Klein and bag from See by Chloe. To give the outfit a kick of trend, I styled the look with tassel earrings from Kenneth Jay Lane.

I used the colors in the plaid to create this outfit. I styled this more relaxed outfit with a pair of wide leg cropped pants from Halogen and cardigan from Eileen Fisher. For a pop, I added these teal pumps from Boden and finished the outfit with a grey tote from AllSaints and tassel lariat from Stella & Dot.
