With Thanksgiving in a few days, when I think about clothes, all I think about is comfort and wonder just how far I can push the fat-pants before officially moving into sloth and ridiculousness. An obvious pants choice for Thanksgiving are leggings– they’re stretchy, comfortable and easy. But what if you’re tired of leggings or need to get a bit more dressed up? Well, remember our good friend Ponte, that beefy interlock knit that is one of the most forgiving fabrics on the planet? Ponte is a perfect Thanksgiving pants fabric because it’s stretchy while being hefty enough to contain you…even after your third helping of stuffing. In honor of the holiday, I am styling five ponte pants outfits using this pair by Boden.
Why choose ponte?
Like I said earlier, ponte is a beefy double-knit interlock knit fabric that has stretch. In a slim silhouette like this Boden pair, they can be worn like leggings without being leggings, if you catch my drift. Leggings fabric is typically much thinner in weight than ponte which means that ponte can be worn more like trousers than leggings can, plus they can also be a heftier leggings substitute. Yes, this fabric is durable and flexible– two things we all need desperately on Thanksgiving.
Five Ponte Pants Outfits
Here are some ponte pants outfits to consider when styling a pair. Remember, I like to use items more than once and frequently call on styles used in previous weeks to illustrate a more realistic approach to wardrobe management.

For a more festive Thanksgiving family gathering, I styled these ponte pants with a decorative sweater by J. Crew. And, feeling sort of 60′s retro, I added a pair of Nine West purple kitten heel pumps and a yellow clutch by Latico Leathers. One of the best ways to add some pizzazz to your more classic looks is to play with fun color combinations. Because of all the detail around the neck, in order to let the neckline shine, I styled this outfit with a simple pair of black stud earrings from Stella & Dot and a black bracelet by Andara.

If you’re Thanksgiving dinners are more casual, keep in mind that a basic sweater, like this one from Zara, and pants doesn’t have to be boring. In this outfit it is all about the additions, like these gray booties by Kenneth Cole, a Stella & Dot tassel necklace, cocktail ring by Seraphina and blush handbag by MICHAEL Michael Kors. When keeping your look super simple and basic don’t forget the accessories!

If you’re family gatherings are super-casual, don’t show up in sweats, try a casual sweater, like this one from Athleta, a fun pair of flats, like these red ballerinas (which are the MOST comfortable flats I’ve ever owned) by Vince Camuto, a red pop pair of earrings and a simple cocktail ring which was used in the last outfit. With a metallic handbag by Big Buddha this outfit is done, but not overdone. Let’s hope the same goes for your turkey. One quick note about this sweater, it has gathering and ruching on the side seams. This means that as you fill up on food nobody will be able to tell if it is your tummy or the shirt that is causing the lumps and bumps. Score!

I always feel bad for the people stuck in the kitchen, which, by the way, is never me. It is always so hot in there. If you’re going to be running around or are stuck making the gravy, consider layering a sweater over a sleeveless top. Here I took this sweet, pink top from Anthropologie, layered an easy grey Mango cardigan over it and finished the look with a gray pair of boots from Frye. The accessories are the same as in previous looks with the exception of the stud earrings from Stella & Dot.

Featuring these rich, gray ponte pants from Boden, I just couldn’t resist styling them with camel. Camel and gray is one of my favorite color combinations on the planet. Heading back to the 60′s retro feel again (I have no idea what is going on with me today), I started with a mod looking sweater, also from Boden, added a pop to the outfit through a pair of animal print kitten heel pumps by über comfort brand Clarks, some black and tan earrings by DelVecchio Designs, the same black bracelet as used previously and a sharp looking, black Ivanka Trump bag.
In the end, whatever you wear on Thanksgiving it really doesn’t matter. What matters is being surrounded by loved ones and showing gratitude for the blessings in your life. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and one of the things I am grateful for are all of you who take time to read and learn from my blog.
