Seeing as how today’s Five Friday Facts come from a top 10 list about electric vehicles, this will be “Part 1” of a two part Five Friday Facts.
Counting down from #10 through #6, with the top 5 next week, here are this week’s facts:
- The average American’s daily round-trip commute is less than 30 miles. Many electric vehicles have a range of more than 70 miles per charge.
- More than 7,000 plug-in and all-electric vehicles were sold in October 2012, the highest total of cars in this category sold in one month.
- There are currently 13 electric vehicle models on the market. Over the next two model years (2013 and 2014), manufacturers are set to debut at least 18 new plug-in hybrid and all electric vehicles.
- Up to 80 percent of the energy in the battery of an electric vehicle is transferred directly to power the car, compared with only 14-26 percent for internal combustion cars.
- Unlike gasoline-powered vehicles, electric cars emit not tailpipe emissions when running on electricity.
