Midori Spring Ceremonial (GOLD) Matcha Green Tea
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. (3 John 1:2 ESV)
Fruits, plants, and herbs have proven to be highly effective in helping women live healthier lifestyles. One way to incorporate these ingredients into our life is through tea.
Striving for optimum health can put Christian women in position to do great things for the Kingdom of God. If we disregard our physical and emotional well being, it complicates our effectiveness in the home, business, and ministry.
Every day I drink at least two cups of hot tea. I have a variety of brands and flavors overflowing my cupboard.
Lately I have been enjoying peppermint tea that I steep from peppermint leaves right from my herb garden!
So needless to say I was excited to try Midori Spring’s Ceremonial GOLD Matcha Green Tea.
Midori Spring Ceremonial GOLD Matcha Green Tea
Matcha green tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant. It is tea leaves ground into a very fine powder. There is a ceremonial history that goes along with matcha but I am only interested in its health benefits.
Matcha is different from steeping peppermint leaves or dropping a tea bag in hot water. With matcha tea you are consuming the entire leaf (in powder form). Therefore you are consuming all the nutritional benefits of the camellia sinensis plant.
Because matcha is 100% organic, many believe that the benefits far exceed your every day bagged green tea.
Matcha green tea is organic and vegan. It’s also free from soy, dairy and GMO’s. Yay! 😉
Matcha has natural caffeine but unlike coffee it gives me a natural burst energy. 1 gram of matcha green tea has approximately 35 milligrams of caffeine.
This is much less than the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee. When I drink matcha tea at night I personally have no problem getting to sleep.
Benefits of Matcha Green Tea (according to Midori Springs)
- Encourages weight loss by improving metabolism
- Relaxes the mind and body (hence my 2 to 3 cups per day habit) 😉
- Matcha contains 100 times more Epigallacatechin Gallate (EGCg) than any other tea on the market. EGCg is known for fighting cancer.
- Detoxes the body
- Boosts the immune system
How to make Matcha Green Tea
Tradition calls for one to drink matcha green tea out of a bowl. You first preheat the bowl by pouring boiling water into it. Allow the bowl to heat up for about a minute. Then empty and dry the bowl.
Take your Midori Spring’s tea and put 1 to 2 small clumps in your bowl or cup. Pour hot water and whisk tea with a bamboo or plastic whisk. After several brisk stirs the drink turns creamy and frothy.
The natural color of organic green tea is a beautiful bright green.
Initially I did not add anything to it but the taste of matcha alone is an acquired one. The smell and flavor is very earthy. I agree with others that it smells like grass and the taste is a little bitter.
The Midori Spring’s matcha green tea can also be added to smoothies, juices and used for baking.
My favorite tea recipe consists of matcha green tea,
1 tsp of coconut oil, and 2 tsp of organic honey.
Since drinking matcha over the last month I have not seen any significant weight loss, but I have been more energized and focused. I’ve been more productive with writing, family, and ministry.
The Midori Spring’s Matcha Green Tea retails for around $25 on Amazon. This is far from the traditional cost of supermarket tea bags, but the price reflects a higher grade of tea.
Depending on how matcha green tea is consumed, a 30g tin will make anywhere from 20-30 servings.
