Firsts.

By Agadd @ashleegadd

Everett laughed for the first time last week. Not a squeal, or a half-giggle, both of which he’s been doing for weeks (months?) now, but a real, true, from-the-bottom-of-his-belly LAUGH.

It was music to my little ears. He’s done it maybe six or seven times since then. I have attempted to capture it on video, but I always have to hide the camera because he gets too shy and curious and distracted to do anything but stare with his eyebrows furrowed.

I’ve been thinking a lot about “firsts” this week, and how the first anything is usually the best anything. First smile, first laugh, first time in the pool, first time grabbing my necklace and refusing to let go. You never get a first moment back, you know? He’ll do it a second time and then a third time and then before I know it, this super special unique thing is just that, a thing, a thing that he does on a regular basis like it’s no big deal. But that first time? It IS a big deal. It’s worth clapping your hands and smiling big and calling daddy to tell him all about the afternoon that Everett was lying on his changing table laughing a real, true, from-the-bottom-of-his-belly laugh.

p.s. Everett wanted to say hi. Please pay no attention to the drool on his chin and my super annoying high-pitched voice.
