First Day in Saugatuck

By Chelseajmartin

Great day in Saugatuck. More importantly, slept in without an alarm (we had shipped the baby cats off to a “stay-cation” at the farm house in DeWitt) and skipped a homemade breakfast for a wonderful Tamaki lunch before hitting the road.

Thanks to our dear friends, we were able to pack up our bikes on the car via their car rack and head to West Michigan for a long weekend.

On recommendation we reserved our first nights stay at the Blue Star Motel. A modern retro-styled motel that has with an equally well named gracious host Rusty Rose!

Upon Rusty’s recommendation we headed off to downtown Saugatuck via bikes to check out the Mermaid Bar and Grill on the river where we had great mussels and more! (Wine, roasted pork tenderloins with blue cheese, and crispy chicken salad)

After dinner, we headed to Douglas beach for an epic sunset on Lake Michigan with entertainment by Chris. (see pictures featuring Chris Hopp scaling a 7ft log on the beach - Karate Kid style)

Finishing up tonight in a hot tub with Michigan micro-brews… this is pure Michigan.
