Requirements:
Minimum Education & Experience – Must be a United States citizen between the ages of 18 and 35.
– Must possess a High School Diploma or GED, and be able to read and write the English language.
Special Requirements, Licenses and Certifications – Must be certified as basic fire fighter and remain certified through time of appointment as established by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (or appropriate organization named by the State). At or before the time of entrance examination, applicants shall provide evidence of certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
– Must be certified as an EMT-Basic or higher by the Texas Department of State Health Services. At or before the time of entrance examination, applicants shall provide an EMT Certificate issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Hiring preference will be given to applicants who have an EMT-Paramedic or Licensed Paramedic Certificate issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
– Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record as measured by the City’s driver evaluation system.
– Must meet all legal requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards & Education.
– Meet the physical standards for the position
– No felony convictions or major misdemeanor charges or admissions.
– Must be of good moral character with a stable employment history and no history of any conduct which may affect suitability for firefighter work.
– If applicable, discharge from military service must be under honorable conditions.
– Must submit to a TB test during employment as required. (Note: As initial TB test will be required during post-offer physical examination. A negative test result must be received in order to be considered for employment.)
– As a condition of employment, any firefighter hired after September 16, 1987, must successfully complete the paramedic training program when such training is made available and shall maintain State of Texas certification as a paramedic up through the ranks of firefighter, fire apparatus operator and fire lieutenant.
