Job Description
FIREFIGHTER – FIRE SERVICES-OPERATIONS
FIREFIGHTER (Fire Services – Operations)
Starting Salary: $17.98/hour (40 hour week during academy) $13.52/hour (56 hour week after successful completion of academy)
Shift Schedule: Approximately 112 hours every 2 weeks, or 56 hours/ week.
Applicants must possess Kansas Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or National Registry EMT. Copies of certification are required with application. Candidates with National Registry certification must obtain Kansas EMT certification within 60 days of date of hire.
At time of application, a copy of current EMT card
must be uploaded at time of application to the Manhattan Fire Department.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older prior to appointment and meet all qualification standards including drug screening. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, meet medical exam requirements, and undergo thorough background investigation including criminal history and driving record. The driving record must not reflect serial accidents or convictions that would indicate a habitual disregard for the law. Applicants must be willing and able to comply with the Fire Department residency requirement within 90 days to be eligible for appointment and must be available for the MFD Academy on May 22, 2017.
Applicants must have a valid (date of issue within 1 year of application deadline) Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate. Copy of certification is required with application.
Applicants must have passed the Fire Service Entrance Exam (FSEE) with a score of 80% or better, or have passed the FireTEAM Ergometric, within two years prior to application deadline. Applicants possessing a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university are exempt from the FSEE or FireTEAM testing requirement. Applicants must submit documentation of this requirement at the time of application.
Applicants must not have had a felony conviction directly related to the position of firefighter (e.g., arson, burglary, larceny, murder). Conviction records will not be an automatic bar to employment, but will be considered on a case by case review. Applicants advancing in the recruitment process will be required to report for an oral interview.
