DESCRIPTION:
Plans, coordinates, and directs the operations and activities of the Haltom City Fire Department; oversees fire inspection and arson investigation functions; administers the City’s emergency management program; and supervises assigned personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Oversees and coordinates departmental operations including administration, fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, arson investigation, and fire inspection.
- Develops, implements, administers, and evaluates the Department’s policies, procedures, and programs; establishes departmental goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Directs and participates in the development and administration of departmental budgets; monitors and authorizes expenditure.
- Oversees and directs the maintenance, improvement, and replacement of the Department’s facilities and fire equipment.
- Plans, develops, and administers the City’s emergency management plans and programs.
- Coordinates the testing of readiness plans and liaises with outside agencies regarding emergency management activities.
- Oversees the maintenance and testing of the City’s emergency warning system.
- Provides information to the public regarding emergency preparedness issues.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Compiles and reviews statistical data; prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records, reports, and documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science or related field, and five years experience overseeing municipal fire operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications as a Master Firefighter, Master Inspector, and Emergency Medical Technician are required. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
