A few weeks ago I spent a couple of hours at a friend’s home who uses the typical room fragrance plug-in’s. I could actually smell it from outside her closed front door! Needless to say, I woke up the next morning with a terrible headache that I coldn’t get rid of the entire day. The reason my body reacted this way is that these artificial fragrances are very harmful. In the same way that fabric softener is highly toxic, artificial fragrances like these wreak havoc on your immune system, respiratory system, and body as a whole.
However I am with ya, I want my home to smell good. We have a dog and 2 kids, and I cook a lot, but the last thing I want our house to smell like is diapers, wet dog, and bone broth.

Essential Oil Diffusers!

I wrote recently about my newfound obsession with essential oils. When I was searching for the perfect diffuser, I became a bit overwhelmed by all of the options. SO, I have found what I think to be the best ones!

I absolutely love it for several reasons:
1. it’s not hideous looking
2. it provides a quiet, cool mist that doesn’t heat the oils (heating essential oils lets off the wonderful smell, but destroys most of the beneficial healing properties!)
3. it has multiple settings: “accent light” on/off, mist strength (low, med, high), and different time intervals.
4. it uses water, rather than vaporizing the oils alone (the way a nebulizer would). I actually had a nebulizer for a while and sent it back for 2 reasons: 1. I had to use a TON of oil compared to the 4-5 drops that I use with the diffuser, and 2. It gave of an EMF (electromagnetic field) reading of over 200 – similar to that of a microwave – yikes!
I also have this diffuser which is made by Young Living. They have the best essential oils, but I have to say, this is a very simple diffuser. It works great, and only has an on/of setting. There is also a blue light that is on when it is running. Henry loves it, so it’s become a permanent fixture in his room. Because it only turns on or off with no alternate setting like the one I mentioned above, it will turn off 1/2 way through the night when the water runs out. Not a huge deal, but for around the same price, I personally prefer to have options!
I keep mine going almost all the time! It works great. I’ll be sharing some more of my favorite oils to use in future posts. You can always start out with the standard: Lavender…so nice. When I use my favorite, White Angelica, by Young Living, people freak out about how good my house smells.
